Hermès Scarf Ex-Libris Atlantis 70cm

Year of Issue: 2021

Theme: Human Odyssey

Artist: Ugo Gattoni

Story Behind: “An ex-libris refers to a stamp or plate in a book that identifies its owner. Bibliophile Émile-Maurice Hermès chose a drawing by Alfred de Dreux (1810-1860) from his collection to be his ex-libris in 1923. The famous Duc attelé, groom à l’attente has since become the emblem of the house. The subjects are transported to an undersea sanctuary by the hand of Ugo Gattoni, who is fascinated by ancient and monumental architecture. Seahorses and corals populate this fantastical building and infuse it with legends.”

Hermès Scarf Duo Cosmique

Year of Issue: 2021

Theme: Human Odyssey

Story behind: “In Tantric Buddhism, A-Un refers to the beginning and end of everything. This philosophical concept is embodied here in the form of a couple with complementary energies. As such, a tiger, the embodiment of courage, adorns the man’s jacket. Meanwhile, a peony flower, the symbol of perfection, touches the turban head wrap of his companion.”

Hermès Scarf Faubourg Tropical

Year of Issue: 2021

Theme: Human Odyssey

Artist: Octave Marsal and Théo de Gueltzl

Story Behind: “The first Hermès store opened at 24 Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris in 1880, in a building of modest dimensions that also housed saddlery workshops and private apartments. The current neoclassical façade is the result of audacious building work carried out between 1924 and 1926, extending upwards to create additional floors and a surprising roof terrace. It is from this terrace that the exuberant tropical forest designed by the duo of Octave Marsal and Théo de Gueltzl appears to unfurl. Cheetahs, monkeys and cockatoos blend into this botanical canopy, which also conceals the unexpected figure of the mounted cavalryman from the top of Faubourg Saint-Honoré, who has escaped to the jungle.”

Hermès Scarf Eleftheria

Year of Issue: 2021

Theme: Human Odyssey

Artist: Elias Kafouros

Story Behind: “Elias Kafouros commemorates the bicentenary of his country’s independence and celebrates the courage of his compatriots. His design unfolds like a flag, and each letter of the Greek word for “freedom” is written in a characteristic landscape of the country’s three regions: Continental Greece, the Peloponnese, and the islands of the Aegean sea. Mountainside houses, bell towers, ancient colonnades, bridges, and terraces flower at the heart of luxurious nature. A lake is superimposed at the centre of the letter “θ”, taking the shape of a blue eye – a symbol the Greeks see as warding off bad luck. Here, it symbolises citizens’ open gaze regarding their cultural, social and human heritage. Resolutely turned towards the future.”
