Hermès Scarf Cavaliers du Caucase
Year of Issue: 2014
Artist: Annie Faivre
Jewellery Artist: CloudWei Cheung
The Scarf design story from Hermès: Poised between East and West, and between the Caspian and Black Seas, a chain of mountains extends for over 1,200 kilometers: the Caucasus, source of many ancient myths, like that of Prometheus, the fire-stealer punished by Zeus, king of all the gods. Life is harsh in this landscape of tall peaks, deep valleys, forests and barren wilderness, with one of the most diverse populations on Earth. In the north, where Mount Elbrus rises to a height of 5,642 meters – the tallest peak in the Caucasus, Russia, and the whole of Europe – the republic of Karbardino-Balkaria is home to the Circassians, noted for their fine looks, fierce pride and courage. Women hold a place of honor in this matriarchal society. In the past, richly-attired men and women would ride out together on the region’s Kabarda horses, bred for their robust strength, agility and endurance: long tunics for the men, open-fronted dresses over richly-embroidered blouses for the women, each man bearing his silver powder-casket, each woman her finely-engraved dagger… Annie Faivre’s scarf is a richly decorative tribute to their culture, strewn with embroidered fabrics, objects and jewelry.

Hermès Scarf Maîtres de la Forêt
Year of Issue: 2016
Artist: Annie Faivre
Jewellery Artist: CloudWei Cheung
The Scarf design story from Hermès: With the lightest of touches, Annie Faivre’s carré expresses the full force of nature: the vital energy and burgeoning growth of the plant kingdom. Plants and trees – the monarchs of the forest – form a harmonious, intertwined ensemble, reaching ever-upwards to the light. Branches, leaves and flowers recall the finesse of traditional Kashmiri motifs, created by Indian weavers for the infinitely soft woolen shawls adopted by fashionable European women from the mid-18th century onwards. French textile companies were quick to follow suit, creating their own versions.

Hermès Scarf Noël au 24 Faubourg
Year of Issue: 2004
Artist: Dimitri Rybaltchenko
Jewellery Artist: CloudWei Cheung
The Scarf design story from Hermès: “It’s winter, and tomorrow is Christmas. Peace reigns over Paris, accompanying the walker, lost in his projects for presents under the whorls of silence. It snows – a soft fall of secret flakes. Life is velvet-footed, and the velvet is colored white. At Number 24, Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Hermès, in a snowglobe, is playing with paperweights and the joys of family life. Their magic must not fly away. It gives us our innocence, in the purest nooks of our dreams.” It is a depiction of the perfect Parisian winter wonderland.

Hermès scarf Les Quatre Saisons
Year of issue: 1994
Artist: Robert Dallet
Jewellery artist: CloudWei Cheung
Scarf design story: “The swallows have come back, the days are getting longer, the countryside is blooming. It’s spring! But summer is already here, like a flight of pink flamingos in the skies of the Camargue. Azure glows with purple and gold little by little: autumn has arrived. The squirrel stores his nuts, and the duck flies in from the north alights on the pond. The woodcock slips away into the dusk. Mists float over the meadows, Winter unfolds its cloak of white, and all is at an end – until the cycle begins again”.
